Post : Product Development Manager
Job Description  
• Product Development: The incumbent is expected to develop the products for Oral care -whitening segment and manage end to end R&D process for ensuring OTIF. The person will also be responsible for landing innovations as part of expansion projects of closeup.
• Process Development: This person will be responsible for developing process for gels and new formats (mouthwash, powders, different new and innovative visuals for toothpaste)
• Technology and chasis development for long term technology/GM improvement: The person would be responsible for working with Science and Technology leaders and PTW suppliers for developing new technologies/methods for freshness. It will also entail new chasis and alternate materials for GM improvement for the core gels.
• In terms of work and activities, the person is expected to
• Manage global innovations projects and will be Technical project Lead for whitening and expansion into new geographies projects and hence expected to manage the Innovation project Management process
• Expertise in formulation development and processing principles for Beauty and Personal care products. Use design for value approach and mindset and high level of appreciation for consumer benefits and experience.
• While there is direct responsibility of product and process development, the person is expected to take full responsibility of ensuring all other R&D elements (claims, Consumer Insight, packaging, Safety, regulatory, specifications, sustainability) are managed OTIF and hence working closely with stakeholders and x-functional teams is essential requirement.
• Should have basic appreciation of Supply chain requirements (including quality standards, procurement process), complexity, costing, concept and marketing mix development process.
• On process development of new formals and toothpaste, the person is expected to work on improvising the existing process, developing digital mechanisms and tools for capturing data and also predicting process parameters. There will be an immense focus on developing new formats and ancillaries in oral care and this will require tapping into the right processes (internal/external) for developing the products and complying to UL standards. The person is expected to develop the processes and work closely with SC for this part of the role and develop new processing capabilities. Needless to say, managing scale up, main plant trials, trouble shooting, site extensions, efficiency improvement is an expected part of the role.
• Work with science and technology team to work on new technologies and future technology development with PTW and ensure that all processes of confidentiality, alignment and necessary scoping is done for having a robust long terms roadmap for freshness. The person needs to have good passion and drive for new technologies, ability to look forward at applications and new benefit spaces through formats.
Other important requirements:
• Stakeholder management – should have high level of experience in this.
• Presentation – should be able to present and land the key messages to GCLT and x-functional teams. Should be able to represent R&D in key forums.
• Be a strong business partner as part of a cross-functional team. An awareness and understanding of the impact and contribution of functions (SC, SM, Marketing, etc) is essential.
• Maintain a sense of realism, purpose and urgency within the technical teams and rest of the category through active risk management.
LINE MANAGEMENT
• Contribute to building a strong Processing and formulation team by developing exceptional talents.
• Motivate team in highly challenging circumstances.
• Ensure all HR processes (e.g. PDP, succession planning, training etc) are established and maintained to the highest standard
Candidate Profile
• Minimum Qualification – BTech/M. Tech (Chemical Engineering), M. Pharm or M. Sc (Chemistry)
• Minimum 10-12 years of experience of which at least 3-5yrs in PC R&D
• Process Development & Implementation/Technology Transfer/Production (At least 3 years) experience is ideal
• 2-3 years managerial experience is essential. Should have handled medium to big size global projects.
• Strong communication, experience of working in matrix system, ability to lead cross functional teams, stakeholder management and line management are necessary skills for this job.
